Hello everyone. My name is Sasha and I’m very excited to be taking this course with all of you. I was born and raised in Vernon, BC (part of the beautiful Okanagan valley). I have made Vernon my home and have spent most of my 14 year teaching career there. Two of those 14 years were in Revelstoke, BC. My formal education and training is in high school science and biology, but over the years I’ve taken on many different teaching rolls. A bulk of my teaching experience has been as a teacher on call (T.O.C.) and I have found it to be a unique and rewarding teaching path so far. Currently, I have a two day a week position at our district’s online school where I work with all grades from k-12 and spend the other three days a week doing T.O.C. work. The previous year, in addition to working at the district’s online school, I taught a Planning 10 and Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 11. I also spend my summers working at a well know local golf course. Most of my past time is spent with my family (we have a 3 year old boy) and doing some kind of outdoor activity. We also have a cat and a dog.
It has been a while since I last took any level of post secondary education and I feel that I need to learn some new skills and become more familiar with the tools I already use or know about. This is my first course in the EDDL program and taking a course like this will force me to step out of my comfort zone and get me to think about new ideas and try new things. So my expectations for this course and the EDDL program are just that. And so far from what I can see, I shouldn’t be disappointed. I hope to then use these tools and skills and incorporate them into a regular classroom setting or into an online teaching environment, depending on where my teaching career takes me. I hope that the end result will be a more rewarding teaching career then I already have and positive results for my students and future learners in our educational system.
It’s great to see how unique everyone is and I look forward to collaborating with all of you.
