I chose to use an audio clip describing a task where the students will take a look at the Galapagos Islands finches. They are to look at one of the various species of finches and go into detail regarding the structural and behavioural adaptations of their finch. I cut an audio clip of a finch (from freesound, thanks Abbi!) and put it at the end of the audio. I am hoping that students can think about not only the structure of the beak, but the sounds and patterns of sounds for their finch and possibly come up with an explanation as to why finches may sound different regarding behavioural adaptations.
Love this. I might steal for my biodiv unit next year.

Hi Markku,
Good combination of audio files. I think this is a great way to use sounds you can gather online and turn them into a learning object with your added explanation. I think being able to manipulate audio, even if it’s going to be used with video or with a narrated PowerPoint, is a great media skill to have.
Hi Markku,
I wish Math had more sounds – you and Abbi’s science tracks are just much more interesting.
Same note that I comment I left for Abby – I’m not sure if it is the Theme used for the blog or the html markup but the little media player that played the audio didn’t have a progress bar (I don’t know if this is the correct term) but rather just said “Live Broadcast”. Without this progress bar, I was unable to fast forward or go back to an earlier portion of the audio without finishing the track, when finally the “play again” icon appeared. May this is worth looking into since the students would probably like to have some functionality to rewind. Cheers!
