Post 3 – Designing Aligned Learning Experiences

In the context of proper depiction of chemical reaction mechanisms:

Intended outcome:  1. Identify nucleophiles/electrophiles, 2. label nucleophilic electron pairs, 3 flow of arrows.

1 – Create a list of reagents.  Simplify non-participating atoms, highlight functional groups, lead students to notice and identify nucleophilic and electrophilic sites.

2 – Provide some near-complete mechanisms missing electron pairs.  Have students label electron pairs properly.

3 – Provide reagents, intermediates, and products.  Have students complete the electron flow arrows.

Assess according to proper identification.
